Iskash*taa Refugee Harvesting Network – ongoing, harvests fruits & vegetables from your trees & garden!

Do you have food growing in your neighborhood that goes to waste? Iskash*taa Refugee Harvesting Network is a community-based organization of refugees from all over the world. Iskash*taa means working cooperatively together in Somali. The organization harvests and collects foods that would otherwise go to waste, including approximately 30,000 pounds a year from Tucson area home yards and local farms. This food is then re-distributed to hundreds of refugee families.

Recycle the basics

If everyone would simply separate the paper, plastic, glass and aluminum products from the trash and tossed them is a recycling bin, we could decrease the amount of waste sent to landfills by 75% . Currently it takes the area the size of Pennsylvania to dump all our waste.

Old Computers

The following locations refurbish and/or recycle your old computers, monitors, speakers, cellphones and more,

Pima Computer Recycling: 1134 S. Park Ave.; 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5:30 p.m. weekdays; 623-7162.
Chaparral Foundation Computer Hospital: 4585 E. Speedway, Suite 104; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays; 795-8375.

ABOPC: Antifreeze, Batteries, Oil, Paint & Computers
These items can be dropped off with no fee at a special household hazardous waste collection site across from the scale house at Los Reales Landfill:

Antifreeze,
Batteries (auto and dry)
Motor oil (5 gallon maximum size)
Paint (25 cans maximum)
Computers (One per household; for multiple computers call 623-7162)

This site cannot accept business-generated waste.
