Are you in the market for a new car? Even if you’re not, we thought you might enjoy some simple information about the several lines of eco-friendly cars that will be hitting a showroom near you. Driving one of these eco-friendly cars is one of the easiest ways for you to reduce your carbon footprint.

Here is some basic information along with a list of some of the most popular eco cars coming your way.

Hybrid is defined as using both a gasoline engine and electric motor to power the car, switching back and forth as necessary. A plug-in hybrid is similar, but comes with a larger battery that allows the vehicle to travel solely on electric power for short hops, but not for long stretches. An extended-range electric vehicle, like the Volt, can go up to 40 or so miles on electricity, after which a small gasoline motor kicks in to recharge the battery and keep driving.

Some of the most popular eco-friendly cars:

2010 Chevrolet Volt 230- This eco-friendly car is supposed to get a fuel economy of 230 miles per gallon in the city. The electric engines in this 2010 eco-friendly car can go up to 40 miles without a charge. The Chevy Volt 230 is perfect for those who like to have the most cutting-edge technology. The price tag exceeds $40,000 making it one of the more expensive eco-friendly vehicle options.

Toyota Prius - One of the most eco-friendly cars for 2010. This vehicle will provide 51/48 fuel economy, making it best in class. The base model starts at $22,000 making the Prius an affordable option for those who wish to live a green lifestyle. Certain models also feature solar powered ventilation systems, which also increases the eco-friendly profile of this vehicle.

The 2010 Honda Insight – This green vehicle boasts a 40/43 fuel economy and base price starts at under $20,000. Those who want the dependability of a Honda and want an economical green vehicle, this is for you.

The 2010 Ford Fusion -It has a fuel economy of 41 mpg in the city. It is also one of the few American made hybrid vehicles. Starting at $27,270

Lexus HS - For those who crave a little luxury in their green living. Starting at $34,200 this small luxury sedan boasts a 35 mpg fuel economy. It is the most fuel-efficient luxury.

Mercury Milan Hybrid 2010- Choose from two gas-electric engine options: a 2.5-liter in-line four and a sportier 3.0-liter V6. This eco-friendly vehicle can go up to 47 mph in electric mode, which is the fastest speed any hybrid car currently on the market can go on electric mode. Starting at $31,235 the Mercury Milan is defiantly an eco-friendly car to consider if you are in the market for a new green vehicle.

Ford Escape Hybrid - Do you need a little room for the family? Boasting a fuel economy of 34 mpg in the city, the Ford Escape Hybrid outperforms its competitors in function and fuel economy. Starting at $31,500 this hybrid SUV is surprisingly affordable.

In the past, it’s been hard to find eco-friendly cars. Times are changing! Now most popular car models are offered with hybrid technology. You will find a wide variety to choose from. Whether it’s cost, fuel economy, or simply personal tastes your looking for, there seems to be something for everyone.

S’well bottles are a great green gift for everyone on your holiday shopping list. The unique double-walled construction keeps drinks cold for 12 hours, even in hot Arizona conditions and also keeps drinks hot well into the chilly winter evenings.

• S’well bottles merge style and function with environmental and social consciousness. Through a year-long design process involving hundreds of prototypes and dozens of focus groups, the S’well bottle was born.

• The shape of the S’well bottle has been designed to fit ergonomically into each customer’s hand, bag and car cup holder. The first-edition S’well bottle is engraved with the S’well motto and has a space on the bottom for personalization for each user’s name or initials.

• An estimated 50 billion plastic bottles of water are consumed each year in the US and over 200 billion bottles globally, not for purity sake, but for convenience and portability.

• Even in this era of conservation of resources, less than 20% of these plastic, disposable water bottles are recycled.

Water is essential for life, but one billion people, one sixth of the world’s population, do not have safe access to it. To address this crisis, for every S’well bottle sold, 10% percent of the proceeds are donated to WaterAid, a non-profit organization that for the past 30 years has been working to deliver water solutions to world’s poorest communities. Every bottle sold provides almost a year supply of water for someone in need, and every five bottles sold provides a lifetime supply.

The kitchen is not the only place in your house where you can reduce unnecessary chemicals and eliminate wasteful packaging. One place that often gets overlooked is the bathroom. There are all sorts of organic bath products available now that don’t test on animals, don’t use harmful chemicals, and use recycled packaging. However, the best way to be sure of what is in your toiletries while using the least amount of packaging material, is to simply make them yourself! You’ll find they are surprisingly easy to make, and very simple to customize to your specific needs. (They also make wonderful gifts!)

To make your own all-natural shampoo you need: 4-6 oz of liquid castile soap, which can be found at any health food store. Castile soap is a cleansing agent made from olive oil, which is gentle, all natural, contains no animal ingredients, and is inexpensive. Next, choose 2-4 different types of herbs to add to the shampoo. Both dry and fresh herbs are fine, but if you use fresh herbs you need to use about three times as much. Lastly, choose an essential oil to add. Some good starting combinations of herbs and oils are: chamomile and tea tree oil for dandruff prone hair, lavender oil and sage for oily hair, Aloe Vera (fresh or gel form) and almond oil for dry hair. So, to put it all together: boil 2 cups of distilled water. Then add about a ¼ cup of each herb chosen to the hot water, let it sit for 30-40 minutes, strain, and mix with the castile soap and ½ teaspoon of your essential oil. Pour it into a clean, recycled bottle or jar with a top. You now have your own, chemical-free, all natural customizable shampoo! Since there are no preservatives, it should be used within 30 days.
