Green Made Easy- Everyday Reminders
If you are concerned about the environment then you will know that climate change is in the news a lot. Many companies are going green by promoting eco-friendly products which incorporate recyclable packaging or encouraging customers to bring their reusable bags by providing a discount.
You may not think that you are making a difference to the world by simply taking the bus instead of the car once a week, but if everyone did one small eco-friendly thing, it really would make a huge difference to the planet. ??Not only will it make our lives better, but it will also improve the world’s condition for our grandchildren-and their children.
Let’s see how you can start being a little more green.
Save Electricity
It’s a bad habit which almost everyone does – leaving the PC or the lights on in another room. In future, remember to switch off your laptop when you’ve finished playing foxy bingo or tweeting. Even putting it in sleep mode or hibernate mode uses electricity. ?When it comes to the lights, remember to turn them off when you’re leaving the room. You could also switch your regular lights to power-saving bulbs or compact fluorescent light bulbs.
In addition, always remember to unplug appliances when you’re not using them. Alternatively, use a “smart” power strip that senses when appliances are off.
Heating
Simply set your thermostat a few degrees lower in the winter and a few degrees higher in the summer. This will not only save you money on your bills but you are helping the environment too.
Washing
Wash your clothes in cooler water whenever possible because a staggering 85 per cent of the energy used in washing machines goes to heating the water. Rather than tumble drying your clothes, leave them on a clothesline to save the energy. There’s no excuse not to do this is the summer!
